Description
We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Pilates is famously known for its emphasis on the core-the center of the body from which all movement stems. It is a series of low-impact exercises that improve strength, flexibility, and balance. These exercises are inspired by yoga, ballet, and calisthenics, and focus on the core muscles. For example, during a curl-up, you can focus on your center by inhaling and exhaling. Good for strengthening your core muscles, improving flexibility and posture, and reducing stress; classes can ben modified to meet you at your level, to work with you.
Strengthening the core muscles not only enhances stability but also plays a crucial role in decreasing back and hip pain. Regular Pilates practice helps improve posture by aligning the spine and promoting better body awareness.
In this 4-week series, you will learn the key fundamentals to a successful Pilates practice including: proper muscle engagement, body awareness/alignment, and breath control.
Our Pilates fundamentals class is tailor-made for beginners who seek a thorough understanding of proper mat Pilates movements. We’ll delve into the intricacies of the exercises in the original mat Pilates repertoire, emphasizing the six fundamental principles:
