- BIKE ROUTE UPDATE: As you know - we had to change our bike leg route due to road construction that will not be completed in time for our triathlon. We kept it pretty close to the same distance, but you can expect it to be a bit more intense in areas. I recommend that you create a Strava.com account and if you follow me - "Kelly White" I can share with you that route or you can go to this link: 2024 WNBT Bike Leg Strava Map.
- This course has been done by one of our committee members AND he's registered for the triathlon. He knows this area of our triathlon as he has grown up in the area and continues to ride it on a regular basis. The great thing - we've been able to keep the distance about the same at 15.67 miles for this third leg. I will tell you, that it is going to be a bit more of a challenge, but it seems like our past participants have really liked that about our bike leg. With this being said, there are portions of this road that will be gravel and I apologize to those who have road bikes and make the decision not to race because the roadconditions have changed. I recommend that if you're able to, please ride this route to become familiar. There are no 'big obstacles' like dogs and traffic should hopefully be minimal. We plan to have more volunteers in place along the route to make sure bikers are safe and stay on course. This bike route is a mix between tar and chip, compact dirt and on the Mountain Road portion there are a few spots that are gravel. Otherwise, it is a hard top surface. The portion of this bike route that is dirt happens to be a straight portion with no crazy hills or turns.
- Registration will open at 6:30 a.m. where we have been starting it off - the Wyalusing Area High School, 11450 Wyalusing-New Albany Road
- Everyone will receive a bib and the race chip will be attached to your bike. ***If you're a team - only the member doing the bike leg will receive a chip***
- Please stage your kayak and bike before 7:30 a.m. There will not be time after that point to do so.
- Pre-race talk will begin promptly at 7:45 a.m.
- Race starts at 8 a.m.
- A pace car will lead the runners to the Terrytown Launch and there will be a water station right before at the Terrytown Cemetery.
- The skilled staff from Endless Mountain Outfitters will be on sight at the launch if you need help getting your kayak into the water, but they will not do so unless directed by you.
- At the Endless Mountain Outfitters leg change - there will be a water station.
- We will have volunteers throughout the bike leg portion - as this is a new route and we want to make sure all athletes stay on course and do not run into any incidents.
- You end at the high school where we will have the award ceremony and food for you all.
- You need to wear a life jacket while kayaking and a helmet when biking. These need to be hooked and racers will be disqualified if they are not wearing these.
- We love to have family and friends there as spectators cheering you on BUT we do not want them running the course with you or biking the course. I go over this every year and the last few years we've had spectators out there on bikes or running/walking dogs. This is not safe for them or for our participants. Please remind them of this if they plan to do that.
- We will stress that there are no spectators who drive off toward the Terrytown launch site. There is no space to accommodate cars there, because this area is still open to the public and there is just not enough room. We encourage everyone to leave from the high school and go over to EMO to watch you come in off the water. There are some great places to view from that point.
