Boys and girls, grades 1st through 8th from all communities can register to play instructional basketball. (Boys and girls will play in separate leagues.) The instructional league is 6 weeks. Due to the instructional nature of this league, there will be no end of season tournament. No select teams allowed. Teams will have (1) one-hour practice per week (day and time determined by the coach), and will play 1-2 games on Saturdays. The registration fee includes the player's game day t-shirt. Players will be grouped together according to their skill level and or home campus. Players from outside WISD will only be put on a team with other players from the same school if there is a coach for that team and they will be using a home town gym for practice. Grades will play independently, or if necessary combined with other grade levels. Final team assignments will be made by the Community Education staff. We do no accept team placement or coaching requests. Players will not be moved from a team due to practice day conflicts. Those who want to volunteer to coach a team (head or assistant coach) must submit an online volunteer application. All volunteers are subject to a background check. If chosen, the head coach will be allowed one free child's registration. In addition, there will be a virtual coaches meeting announced at a later date. ALL APPROVED HEAD COACHES WILL NEED TO CALL OR EMAIL FOR A ONE TIME USE COUPON CODE FOR A WAIVED REGISTRATION FEE. Practices will start the week of March 24th. Games will start on March 29th and end on May 10th. This will be a 6 week instructional league. There will be no practices or games the week of April 19th due to Easter Holiday. **Location and date of games are subject to change based on gym availability for the district. **Jewelry is not permitted and must be removed, with the exceptions of Medic Alert Bracelets. Bandages/tape over piercings will not be permitted.
