Art of the Portrait (Painting in Oils) w/Ernie Norcia A ten (10) session course No class on 1/16 and 2/20
Portraiture is a very old art form going back at least to ancient Egypt. As we explore together this fascinating subject, you’ll see how portraits often show a variety of qualities of the sitter, like social class, age, beauty, occupation, etc. Our focus will be issues of likeness, composition, space, color, texture, measure, and proportion, with special attention given to how to translate skin’s complex surface characteristics in paint. Demonstrations will include a layered painting technique to bring out the full depth and richness of color of the subjects we paint. This course is open to all skill levels, from foundation to advanced, encouraging all participants to deepen their knowledge of portraiture through the art of painting.
