Please note, the entrance for this activity is through the Victoria Conservatory of Music, 900 Johnson Street.Join us for talks by early music specialists on intriguing aspects of Baroque music and performance practice.
Lectures are open to the general public at $15 (+ fees) per lecture. Enroll Now to reserve your spot. You will be prompted during registration to select which lecture(s) you would like to attend.
(If you are already enrolled in the program, the lectures are included in your tuition and there is no need for you to register)
Faculty Lectures:
#1 - Saturday, July 11 4:30-5:15pmProgram Faculty - Why Early Music?Meet some of the program faculty and hear their stories about how early music captured their attention and continues to hold it.
#2 - Monday, July 13, 5:15-6:00pm Christina Hutten - Salon Gatherings and Women's VoicesSalon gatherings were a focus of cultural life in the eighteenth century, and a place where women could share their music and ideas. Christina will introduce you to some of the women involved in the salon scene and perform some of their music.
#3 - Wednesday, July 15, 5:15-6:00pm Diederik van Dijk - Forays into the Romantic Era"Early Music" is often described as music written before 1800, but historically informed performance approaches can be applied to later repertoire too. Diederik will introduce and perform cello repertoire from the nineteenth century.
#4 Thursday, July 16, 5:15-6:00pm Elyssa Lefurgey-Smith - Introduction to ImprovisationLearn some simple tools that will demystify the skill of improvisation and help you to extemporize.
Refund Policy
Program viability is based upon minimum enrollment. As such, there are no refunds available after the registration deadline (in most cases, four weeks prior to the program start date), except in cases of injury or illness (for which a doctor’s note is required), or other exceptional circumstance, such as family re-location.
Prior to the registration deadline, tuition may be refunded, pending the approval of the Artistic Director. Application and transaction fees are non-refundable. Withdrawal requests must be made in writing to the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Registrar’s Office. Requests made after the completion of a given program will not be considered.
