Course Description: Starting with Chancery Cursive, you will learn the basic materials and techniques for calligraphic writing. Through clever and elegant pen strokes, this art form can stress the history and beauty of the written word through creative expression. Fancy lettering is useful in art projects, bullet journals, making place cards and labels, and addressing envelopes and creating invitations to special occasions. In this class we will make frameable art from your favorite verse or aphorism. Learning the art of calligraphy as a hobby is not at all expensive and is one hobby that gives you a lifetime of praise for a little initiative.
MATERIALS:
Paper—A few sheets of regular printer paper (for practice) and several 8.5 in. x 11 in. sheets of parchment paper. (I have a good supply of ivory card stock and stationery paper you can use.)
Pens—Flat calligraphy nibs (C-2, C-3, C-4), black ink, and a pen holder, OR a set of cartridge-type calligraphy pens (usually includes 3 sizes of nib), OR felt tip calligraphy pens. The non-refillable pens have a nice selection of colors, but a poor choice of nib sizes. You will also need a plain nib (C-6, school nib, or crow quill) for details.
Pencil and Eraser
Ruler
Light Board—A light board is handy, but there are work-arounds.
Paper Towels
Water Container for cleaning nibs
