Course Description: Crocheting allows us to make beautiful items that also have a useful function. In this class, we will review the basics of crochet: tying on, chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, and sewing in the loose ends. We will make a variety of squares to be joined together into a small (or large if you’re ambitious) afghan sampler, all while learning the language of crochet pattern instructions.
Supplies Needed:ScissorsLarge tapestry needleCrochet Hook(s)—If you buy only 1 hook, make it an H/8 (5mm). If you buy a set of hooks, make sure it includes an H. Be sure to check out ergonomic hooks.Yarn—Light (3) or medium weight (4). If you want to bring a variety of colors, that’s entirely up to you, but I will be making my sampler from Lion Brand Pound of Yarn (1020 yd). My squares will be Succulent (a light teal), and my joining stitches and border will be Ivory. The lighter colors show off your stitchery better (and are easier to work with) than the darker ones. If you make a full-sized afghan, the pattern calls for:Main color: 1025 yardsContrast A: 820 yardsContrast B: 820 yardsContrast C: 820 yardsReading glasses—If you need reading glasses for detail work, be sure to bring them.
About Your Presenter: Kelly KingKelly is a retired teacher who taught herself to crochet to make a baby afghan for her first great-nephew twelve years ago.
