This course is designed for rising ninth graders. This course aims to prepare students to take the Algebra 2 + Trigonometry course in high school as their next level in the mathematics pathway. This summer aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of Euclidean geometry and its real-world application, deductive and inductive reasoning involving the characteristics of two and three-dimensional figures, including triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, and prisms. Students will additionally build upon the PreAlgebra and Algebra 1 concepts learned in previous grades. Coursework will include at least two to three hours of mandatory and graded homework, self-study exercises, and multiple assessments. Formal assessment will include a final exam. Students choose from one of the two program options that are offered for this course: For-Credit and Not-For-Credit. Please carefully review below the criteria for each option and make the appropriate selection during enrollment. For-Credit: Rising Grade 9 students may take this course for-credit to proceed to Algebra 2, if they have: (1) Earned 90% or higher in Algebra 1 and (2) Pass the summer H. Geometry course with a cumulative grade of 95% or higher. The cumulative grade will appear on a progress report or transcript. Not-for-Credit: Any student who took Honors Geometry in the prior school year may take this summer course to solidify their Honors Geometry knowledge base. Rising Grade 9 students, who took Geometry in the previous grade but did not meet the criteria to advance to Algebra 2, may take this course to satisfy Geometry requirements if they: (1) Earned 70%-85% in the academic year Geometry course and (2) Pass the summer Geometry course with a cumulative grade of 85% or higher. The cumulative grade will not appear on a progress report or transcript.
