JAPANESE LANGUAGE AND ULTURE CLUB Activity Organizer: Ms. Meyers, Email: leigh.meyers@basisindependent.com Dates: Thursdays Time: 4:00 PM–5:00 PM Grades: 6–12 Cost: Description: The Japanese Language and Culture Club aims to celebrate Japanese language and culture, as well as introduce students to Japanese customs and activities. Over the course of the year, the club members will learn various essential topics, with the goal of making the language and culture more approachable. Areas of study include the Japanese alphabet (hiragana), basic grammar, and a portion of first-level kanji, all while learning about essential study skills and memorization methods that will allow students to continue learning Japanese on their own even after the club has ended. By the end of the year, students will understand the fundamentals of Japanese grammar and writing, be able to understand and compose basic sentences, and have a strong understanding of the culture.
