About this event

Activity Organizer: Dr. Noble and Mr. Schindler Email: jon.noble@basisindependent.com ollie.schindler@basisindependent.com Dates: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month Times: 4:00 PM–5:00 PM Location: TBD Grades: 8–12 Cost: $150 Description: The Computational Astrophysics Research Club is an exciting opportunity to collaborate on a machine learning research project exploring astrophysics phenomena. The rise of machine learning has implications in all aspects of life, but a majorly unappreciated application is in astrophysics, where identification of patterns and fluctuations in star systems and celestial orbits is critical. Students will gain hands-on experience with exploring and preparing data, experimenting with different machine learning models, and writing a research paper for potential publication in scientific journals. We will be using Google Collaboratory with Python programming for data preparation and model training/testing, and Overleaf for writing the research paper. No prior coding or astrophysics knowledge required, but recommended.
