Students study and analyze global foreign policy issues with a focus on conflict, human rights, and social justice. This semester course examines complex current events from a range of perspectives in an attempt to better understand their causes and the competing interests of various state and non-state actors. Students come to understand the nature of these issues, as well as, consider the ethical implications of various approaches to addressing the issues, and in turn, propose potential solutions. In addition to the factual knowledge and moral deliberations surrounding these topics, the class works on developing important skills in historical inquiry, analysis, and crafting arguments based on evidence. Because the content of our course is going on around us daily, it is important that students pay attention to international news on an ongoing basis, and look for news coverage from a range of reliable sources that reflect competing political ideologies. This is a UC-designated College Preparatory course. Completion of the course will earn students 5 credits. *Field Trips may be included in this course. *Note: A full semester of International Relations curriculum will be covered in just 2 short weeks. Students should have no major commitments during the duration of the course.
