About this event
In this workshop, co-instructed by Tyler Berry and Chelsea Bard, artists will learn the fundamentals of portrait drawing. With an emphasis on structure and anatomy, artists will learn to approach likeness through careful observation of proportion, skeletal landmarks, and abstract shape design. Students will also learn to create a sculptural quality to their portraits through in-depth analysis of the light and form. Over the course of one week, students will learn to complete a carefully rendered portrait drawing from the live model. The process begins with the block-in stage, which aims to capture the likeness and character through accurate proportion, shape design and structural anatomy. After the block-in is complete, students will move into modeling form through an understanding of the light source. Both instructors will trade off instructing and demonstrating between mornings and afternoons. Students of all skill levels are welcome, though some experience in drawing is encouraged. Artists are welcome to draw and transfer to canvas if preferred.
