The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board annually issues permits for canoe racks on Bde Maka Ska, Lake Harriet, Lake Nokomis, Cedar Lake, Brownie Lake, Ryan Lake, Wirth Lake, Lake Hiawatha and Lake of the Isles. If you're looking for river waters, Boom Island and Bohemian Flats offer racks along the Mississippi River.
Applications for canoe racks will be accepted beginning January 2, 2023 and ending February 28, 2023. New applicants are assigned canoe racks through a lottery drawing. The lottery picks are based on a priority basis, giving city of Minneapolis residents first priority to their permits. City residents who meet the deadline for returning their application will be considered before non-residents of the city.
The lottery drawing will be held by staff. Staff will use preferences listed in your registration to place you when your name is drawn. If none of your preferred lakes are available, we'll place you on a wait list until (or at your request - refund you before) March 31st.
Your application is not received until you complete registration and have had the opportunity to print a receipt with confirmation language included.
