This course certifies individuals as StarGuard Lifeguards. Students must be 16 years old by the last day of class, but 15 years old can be accepted with approval. Participants must pass prerequisite skills on the first day of class to continue. Skills include a 100-yard swim using freestyle and backstroke, a surface dive to a depth of 12 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, and a timed deep-water tread without hands. All class dates are mandatory. Classes are provided as either Blended (partial online learning) or full in-person courses. If student enroll in the Blended learning course, they will need to complete the online portion BEFORE in-person sessions. If online work is not complete before the start of in-person sessions, the participant will be turned away.
