In Quiz Bowl, two teams of four students demonstrate the breadth and depth of their academic knowledge in buzzer-based competitions. Competitions are fast-paced and multi-disciplinary, bringing together students whose academic interests range from literature, geography, history, and mythology to physics, chemistry, biology, math, sports, current events and pop culture. The BASIS Independent McLean Middle School Quiz Bowl Club competes in local, state-wide, and regional tournaments with the goal of qualifying for national tournaments organized by NAQT, PACE and IAC. New players who have not yet attended a national tournament will have the opportunity to build their knowledge and skills through novice tournaments Club members are expected to attend one weekly club practice at school (4pm - 5:30pm). Club consists of mock competitions with students split into teams to practice answering questions in a friendly and supportive tournament setting. Tournaments occur roughly one Saturday per month (9am - 4pm) and members are expected to participate. Tournament / Competition fees are additional costs, handled separately and are the responsibility of the parent.
