Clay Craft 2.0 February 24 to April 2 6:30-8:00 $165 Ready to take your pottery skills to the next level? This class serves as an extension of the “Moving Mud” class. Over this 6-week course, students will be introduced to more advanced ceramic concepts like kiln operation, throwing larger forms, and multi-part forms. Every class will include an introductory talk and/or slideshow to provide a theoretical backbone for instruction. Students will work on four projects: mugs, large bowls, vases, and Jars. Basic materials will be provided, with additional materials available for a fee. Class goals: o Strengthen a working understanding of pottery terminology and process. o Further practice major steps of the wheel-thrown pottery process including wedging, centering, opening, pulling, ribbing, trimming, handling, bisque firing, glazing, glaze firing, and cleaning. o Learn how to apply specific technical skills in meet individual artistic goals. o Focused engagement with the larger landscape of American ceramics through homework assignments and presentation. o Successfully complete four projects: Mugs, large bowls, vases, and jars. o Promote an atmosphere of respect and positivity in the classroom and encourage one another in the learning process. Materials: Students will be provided with the following: o 1 bag (25lbs) of ready-to-use clay o Access to traditional throwing and trimming tools o Space in our kilns to fire pots o Use of our shop glazes *Students may purchase additional clay if desired.
