About this event
Veterinary Assistants are an integral part of the veterinary healthcare team, working under the direct supervision of a veterinarian or credentialed veterinary technician. Through classroom and clinical instruction, you will be trained to provide assistance in the following: • Office procedures and client relations • medical terminology and positioning • pharmacology • preventative healthcare • basic triage, emergency and critical care nursing • behavior and restraint • animal husbandry • laboratory procedures • surgical and recovery room assistance • radiology • exotics husbandry and common diseases • large animal and common diseases All students who sign up for this class will need to pass a CORI, provide proof of a current tetanus vaccination, and must be able to lift 50 lbs. This course is 250 hours (150 classroom, 100 clinical). The Veterinary Assistant Program is approved by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), which offers the nationally recognized credential, Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA). Upon completion of the program, successful graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Approved Veterinary Assistant Exam (exam fee is $100). This is the only NAVTA-approved program on Cape Cod and has been expanded to 250 hours with the addition of exotic and large animals. Stethoscope and textbooks are included. Scrubs and national exam fee are not included.
