About this event

Three IN-PERSON Sessions June 4, 11, 18 This class will focus on themes of time and loss in classic Southern literature. In a seminar format, we will discuss short stories by William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Flannery O’Connor, Peter Taylor, Ralph Ellison, and Doris Betts. We will focus particularly on the depth in these stories that contemporary fiction often lacks. Jim Robison holds degrees from Vanderbilt (BA), Middle Tennessee State (MAT), and Oklahoma State (PhD). In the Army he was an Airborne Ranger and served as an infantry officer in Vietnam; he retired from the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel. Over a career of fifty years he has taught students at every level from seventh-graders to college seniors, and he now teaches Advanced Placement English at North Hall High School. His publications include essays, poems, stories, a book on the short stories of Peter Taylor, and a novel "In the Land of the Living."
