About this event
Six IN-PERSON Sessions January 14, 21, 28, February 4, 11, 18 In this course we will explore the basic process an actor employs to bring a two-dimensional character on the page to a three-dimensional life on the stage. Using three of the seminal plays of one of the South's greatest playwrights, Tennessee Williams, we will explore concepts of dramatic structure, given circumstance and dramatic action as well as the brilliant playwright himself. We will also spend one session on each play reading scenes and sections aloud. NO ACTING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Only an appreciation of great writing, beautiful imagery and powerful stories of the American theatre are needed. **Participants are required to purchase and bring to the first class session copies of The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire and Summer and Smoke published by Dramatist Play Service, available on Amazon. Rick Stoppleworth has performed on stages from Hawaii to New York as an actor, singer, musician (and only when absolutely necessary, a dancer). He earned an MFA in Acting and 20th Century Dramatic Literature from Temple University in conjunction with the League of Professional Actor's Training Program. For twenty-five years Rick was also on the faculty of The University of the Arts theater program in Philadelphia where he taught acting and musical theatre technique as well as serving as Director for the Acting and Musical Theatre programs.
