8 x 75 minute classes In this writing course, students improve their grasp of grammar, reading comprehension, writing, and the use of language with engaging reading passages and direct instructor input. The ingredients of language arts, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, and reading are developed to create better readers and writers in this academic course. Analysis of Text Students hone on previous skills taught in the classroom and continue to reflect on the tone, purpose, and their own opinions versus facts in popular children’s nonfiction reading passages. Advanced critical thinking skills aid in interpreting text so that writing becomes more fluid and organized. Speaking & Listening Skills Communication is vital as students develop strategies for engaging in interactive conversations, which lead to the interpretation of text and writing proficiency. Students grow in a harmonious atmosphere where they use crucial facts to enhance their understanding of text and writing. Writing Practice Students are assessed to support new strategies to enhance reading comprehension, the use of language and vocabulary, and continued practice incorporating grammar and “just the write word” to focus on more sophisticated and concise academic writing.
