About this event
This new and exciting class introduces students to the fundamentals of working with soft pastels through the study of pumpkins and Halloween-inspired imagery. Students will begin by learning how to handle the medium, understand the characteristics of pastel paper, and explore basic drawing and color techniques. As the classes progress, students will develop their understanding of value, light and shadow, color theory, complementary colors, color harmony, form, texture, and composition. The pumpkin will serve as the primary subject through which students will practice these concepts. By the final classes, students will use the skills they have developed to create an original Halloween-inspired composition based on their own imagination and artistic decisions. The final project will allow students design an original composition. The goal is for each student to create a unique artwork while demonstrating the techniques and concepts learned throughout the program. Material costs covered in tuition.
