About this event
Revive The Lost Art of Letter Writing and reconnect with friends and family in a new “old fashioned” way. In this class, Laurel will discuss the history of the letter, examine examples of handwritten letters, and share techniques to write keepsake letters that will be treasured by those who receive them. Every week participants will compose letters of their own to mail to the people they care about. Don’t be surprised if loved ones write back! Laurel published "The Buoyant Letters of Mimsy Bell," a novel written entirely in letters, in 2023. She chose this epistolary form because of her deep-seated belief that letters are an ideal way to communicate with people we can’t see in person. A letter, unlike a phone call, is a physical reminder that you took a bit of your time and gave it to someone to keep. The Lost Art of Letter Writing is designed to encourage a comeback to this old- fashioned art and help participants get started in the joyful practice of corresponding with others by mail.
