Working from a limited palette, this one-day workshop focuses on ways to creating expressive florals on a larger canvas exploring energetic brushstrokes to create a harmonious and vibrant garden scene of flowers. Students will work from their own or provided imagery and examples of colorful works by Josef Klimt and Joan Mitchell will be shared to inspire your process. A short demo will be shared on color mixing and simplification of form.
The Expressive Floral, Abby Ober Supply List:
• One acrylic primed canvas or panel or board: 20 x 20, 24 x 30, 30 x 30, 24 x 36 up to 36 x 36 are my suggested sizes for this class. • Sketch paper and pencil • Set of HEAVY BODY acrylic paints in tubes like Golden or Liquitex or bring what you already have. I recommend a warm and cool of each primary plus white and an earth tone like burnt sienna or umber • Mastersons Sta-wet palette with extra paper 16 x20 size Large • Container for water (like a large yogurt) • Blue shop towels (from hardware shop) or several cotton rags. • Brushes: a variety of flats, filberts and rounds 1/2 inch to 2 inch. One smaller round for lines. • Plastic palette knife (mid-size) • A variety of photos of gardens and flowers for inspiration. These can be yours, but I will also have some inspiration on hand to share.
