Patrick Lee takes a unique creative approach to making paintings in the studio and en plein air. He draws heavily on intuition and imagination to develop an image, often altering the drawing, color, and spatial relationships to create a mood and express a feeling about the subject. This often leads to strong elements of abstraction and suggestion in his work, rather than explicit detail. This gives the viewer an opportunity to connect with each piece in their own way, inviting them to let their own imaginations make personal associations and connections.This two-day workshop focuses on painting interiors from photographic and memory references, as well as establishing a mood through lighting, color, and composition.
Supply list:
Colors:Oil paint, but acrylic will work, too.Colors are as follows (All Gamblin): -Titanium/Zinc white (Regular Titanium White will work) -Quinacridone Red (Alizarin Crimson will work) -Cadmium Red Deep -Cadmium Orange -Cadmium Yellow Deep -Cadmium Lemon -Pthalo Blue -Ultramarine Blue Medium: Liquin (traditional formula)
Drawing: Vine charcoal (medium or soft) for laying in major lines on canvas (a couple of sticks will do); sketchbook and pencils/charcoal recommended
Brushes/Knives: Bristle brushes (flats) in sizes from 4 to 12; for smaller passages, a round sable type (soft) brush or sable flat; palette knife for mixing color and a painting knife for paint application, scraping, blending, and general besmirching of the surface.
Canvases: Stretched or panels, various sizes. Patrick likes to work large (20x24, 30x30, 36x36, 30x40 etc), but this is not necessary (or desirable) for everyone. Any standard size, store-bought canvas will work.
Other:Gamblin odorless mineral spirits to clean brushes Viva paper towels
