About this event
Enjoy an art-filled day in Waterville with artist and trip leader Deb Vendetti. We will begin at the Colby College Museum of Art—always free and open to all—with the new exhibit Imagining an Archipelago: Art from Cuba, Guam, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and their Diasporas on view through June 6, 2027, with approximately fifty contemporary, vibrant artworks connecting the countries’ histories. There will be free time to visit other exhibitions including the Alex Katz wing. At noon we will gather for lunch ($10 for all you care to eat, carefully crafted to satisfy all taste buds and dietary preferences) at the Roberts Dining Commons, a few steps from the museum. After lunch, we will travel to the downtown campus at the Paul J. Schupf Art Center where the Joan Dignam Schmaltz Gallery of Art is exhibiting By Design: The Worlds of Betsy James Wyeth that explores the significant, yet often overlooked, role of Betsy James Wyeth as a designer, preservationist, and creative partner to her husband, artist Andrew Wyeth, on view through November 2, 2026. It will be a day full of art enrichment! Instructor Deb Vendetti holds a BFA in Painting (UMass Dartmouth) with Graduate studies in Creative Photography (Cranbrook). She has been active in the local arts community since 1981; Education Coordinator at the Farnsworth Museum (1987-1998); local chair, Union of Maine Visual Artists (2003-2008, and 2022-present). She has led adult drawing workshops for Maine Crafts Association, Lincoln Street Center, Round Top, Orppersdorf Studio, and CHRHS.
