Bring your project and spend the afternoon carving at your own pace with instructor Bethany Lee nearby to offer guidance, answer questions, and help when you need it. Guided Stone Carving: Open Studio is open both to students participating in the morning workshop and to carvers who are working on projects of their own. Morning students can stay and continue working on their project, while returning or experienced students are welcome to bring an independent stone carving project. Unlike a traditional workshop, there is no set project or formal group instruction during Open Studio. Instead, you'll have dedicated time to work independently while still having access to Bethany's experience and guidance. Open Studio is a separate registration from Intro to Stone Carving. Students may register for the morning workshop and the afternoon Open Studio, or register for Open Studio on its own. *Please note: - In this workshop there is repetitive action of hammering a chisel - Stone carving is primarily done while standing. Breaks will be provided throughout the workshop, but participants should be prepared to stand for most of the class. *Students should bring their own safety goggles if they have them and wear closed toed shoes Bethany Lee Born and raised in Minnesota, Bethany is a sculptor, working primarily in stone, for whom drawing and painting form an integral part of her creative process. She holds a BA in sculpture (’03) from the University of Dallas, and she is a 2019 graduate from the drawing and painting program at the Florence Academy of Art (Jersey City location). Bethany currently works both in the Charlottesville and DC areas where she works on commissions in stone and teaches stone carving classes as well. When not in the studio, Bethany can often be found entertaining her nieces and nephew, reading at a local coffee shop, or wandering around in the woods somewhere in the Blueridge Mountains.
