About this event
Part of the Baylor TIP Innovation Lab Series: Where Big Ideas Become Real Solutions What if you could tackle the kinds of problems that scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and world leaders face every day? In Baylor TIP Innovation Lab, you'll work with other curious students to solve exciting real-world challenges. You'll investigate the problem, brainstorm creative ideas, build innovative solutions, and present your team's recommendations just like professional innovators. The Future of Food: Can We Feed the World? Hans Gruber has become one of the world's most successful biotechnology entrepreneurs. His newest company, NovaHarvest, has developed a revolutionary food production system. By combining vertical farms, artificial intelligence, gene-edited crops, autonomous robots, and laboratory-grown proteins, Hans claims he can feed millions of people while using only a fraction of today's land and water. At a press conference, he confidently announces, "The future of food won't come from bigger farms. It will come from smarter science." The proposal has sparked a global debate. Many scientists applaud the breakthrough, while others question its long-term effects. Local farmers worry about losing their livelihoods. Environmental groups support reducing land and water use but raise concerns about ecological impacts. Parents wonder whether laboratory-grown foods are healthy for growing children, and restaurant owners question whether customers will embrace a new way of eating. With several countries already negotiating contracts with NovaHarvest, Texas must decide whether to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the technology. Before any decision is made, Baylor TIP Innovation Lab has been asked to investigate the evidence, weigh the competing perspectives, and recommend a path forward. Will your team help shape the future of food, or discover that some innovations require a more careful recipe for success?
