Baylor TIP Camp is primarily residential, but families may select a day camp option. Students will stay in the dorms with Resident Assistants Sunday night through Friday nights, going home Saturday morning. Course offerings will run from 9am to 4pm, and social events and activities will be held every evening. Meals are included with registration. Students who elect to commute to camp will have the option of participating in the breakfast and staying for evening activities if they choose. Students must have been admitted to Baylor TIP to enroll. Historical Epidemiology: How Diseases Changed the World What do medieval ships, crowded factories, and modern airports have in common? In this course, you will explore the world’s most famous epidemics, from the Black Plague and tuberculosis to the Spanish flu and COVID-19, utilizing gripping case studies that read like medical mysteries. Step into the role of a disease detective as you trace outbreaks using maps, timelines, data, and firsthand accounts. Analyze how people explained illness before modern science, why some responses saved lives while others failed, and how fear, politics, and misinformation shaped outcomes. Along the way, you’ll build skills used by epidemiologists and public health professionals today: analyzing evidence, spotting patterns, and thinking critically about risk and response.
