About this event
Baylor TIP Camp for 4th-7th graders is a day camp option. Morning course offerings will run from 9am to noon, and afternoon courses run from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Lunch is included only with registration for BOTH morning and afternoon courses. Stitching Stories: Math, History, and Meaning in Quilts In this hands-on, interdisciplinary class, you will discover how quilts can tell powerful stories. As you explore the history and symbolism of Freedom Quilts, you will analyze how patterns, colors, and designs were used to communicate messages and preserve culture. Throughout the process, you will also connect quilting to math by investigating geometric shapes, symmetry, fractions, and area, learning how mathematics brings structure and balance to creative design. As both artist and storyteller, you will plan, design, and construct your own quilt, using intentional patterns to communicate a message or narrative of your choice. By the end of the course, you won’t just understand quilts as beautiful objects; you will see them as meaningful texts where history, math, and creativity are stitched together into a story you can share.
