About this event
Part of the Baylor TIP Innovation Lab Series: Where Big Ideas Become Real Solutions What if you could tackle the kinds of problems that scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and world leaders face every day? In Baylor TIP Innovation Lab, you'll work with other curious students to solve exciting real-world challenges. You'll investigate the problem, brainstorm creative ideas, build innovative solutions, and present your team's recommendations just like professional innovators. There are no worksheets or memorized answers. Every challenge is different, and every team creates its own unique solution. Reinventing Downtown: The Smart City Challenge Hans Gruber has recently purchased more than twenty buildings in the historic downtown district of Cedar Springs, Texas. His vision is bold: demolish several aging buildings, construct high-rise apartments, replace local shops with technology companies, build autonomous vehicle lanes, install massive digital advertising displays, and create one of the world's first fully AI-powered downtown districts. At a press conference, Hans declares, "History is important. But history shouldn't prevent us from building the future." The proposal has divided the community. Some residents welcome new jobs and economic growth, while others fear losing the town's unique character. Business owners disagree about what redevelopment would mean for downtown. Artists want to preserve the district's cultural identity, while many young professionals embrace modernization. Historians argue that several of the buildings are irreplaceable landmarks with deep historical significance. Before making a final decision, the city council has asked Baylor TIP Innovation Lab to investigate the competing perspectives and develop a recommendation for downtown's future. Will your team find a way to honor the past while embracing the future, or create an entirely new vision that no one has imagined before?
