About this event
Unlock the molecular secrets of life and the future of biomedical technology in this course that dives into the world of genetic information processing, beginning with the DNA blueprint. Students will become Molecular Codemakers, using tangible models to decode genetic sequences and understand how instructions flow from DNA to functional proteins. Next, they will master Bioinformatics, using simulated data sets to practice the advanced scientific skill of quantifying and interpreting molecular measurements, the same data generated by molecular tools/techniques like spectrophotometric analysis and gel electrophoresis. Finally, the course will culminate in an exploration of Diagnostic Artificial Intelligence. Through engaging, unplugged activities, students will design and "train" simple computational algorithms to classify cell health and predict disease outcomes, directly linking their knowledge of molecular information to cutting-edge computational diagnostics. This course focuses on data literacy, system design, and the critical thinking required to solve the most complex problems in modern science. Prerequisite course(s): Successful completion of at least one course from one of these options: Biotechnology, Biology, Anatomy, Physics, Chemistry or Computer Science.
