Drawing Principles & TechniquesAges 9-12Students deepen their study of fine art techniques related to drawing and focus on expression through the application of dry materials such as graphite pencil, conte, charcoal, marker, and pastel on paper. Students will spend extended time learning sketching techniques such as hatching, stippling, shading, and blending to create captivating drawings from observation, photo reference and imagination. Composition, line, gesture, and value will be utilized to create texture, perspective and depth all while exploring the potential of contemporary drawing to explore contemporary themes such as personal identity, culture, the environment, pop and visual culture, translating ideas into thoughtful, visually compelling works of art unique to each artist.
