About this event
Join us for an immersive outdoor acrylic painting experience along Clary Hill Road in Union, Maine, where rolling blueberry fields and expansive views of the Camden Hills create a uniquely inspiring setting. Surrounded by changing skies, open landscapes, and shifting Midcoast light, students will learn to slow down, observe, and paint directly from life. Plein air—French for “open air”—is the practice of painting outdoors from direct observation. Working on-site, students will learn how to capture light, atmosphere, color, and the landscape through acrylic painting techniques suitable for all experience levels. Throughout the class students will explore: * Fundamentals of plein air painting and outdoor setup * Composition and selecting engaging landscape views * Observing changing light, weather, and atmosphere * Color mixing inspired by Maine’s fields, skies, and distant mountains * Simplifying forms and creating depth in landscape painting * Acrylic painting techniques for working efficiently outdoors * Developing confidence and a personal approach to painting This session includes demonstrations, guided exercises, individual painting time, and supportive discussion in a welcoming environment. No supplies needed — all materials are provided. Paints, easels, palettes, viewfinders/view frames, and additional painting materials will be available for student use with a materials fee of $35.
