History talks continue this fall at the Schmidt House! Join us each month for a free hour-long talk on social or natural history, each presented by a recognized expert. Talks begin at noon on the first Thursday of the month.Thursday, November 5 Topic: Nineteenth Century Mail to OlympiaStamp collector Gerry Smith presents an intriguing program on commerce routes to Olympia in the nineteenth century, with a focus on mail routes and contractors. Gerry’s talk will run from the Hudson’s Bay Company and the Cowlitz Corridor through steamboat travel on Puget Sound. Gerry has collected stamps since he was a young boy, and his adult passion is the Railway Mail Service and Railway Post Office mail. His talk will be illustrated with many examples of early mail to Olympia.
