Horseshoes is an outdoor game played between two people using four horseshoes and two throwing targets (stakes) set in a sandbox area. The game is played by the players alternating turns tossing horseshoes at the stakes in the ground, which are traditionally placed 40 feet apart. The game is scored based on two ways: by throwing "ringers" or by throwing the horseshoe nearest to the stake. The game goes to 21, win by 2.
