About this event
Ever wondered if you could create a miniature world, teeming with life, all within the confines of a bottle? This course invites you to explore the fascinating principles of energy systems by designing and building your own self-contained ecosystem. Along the way, you’ll draw from principles in science and engineering, exploring ways to observe, respond to, and even influence the environment you’ve created. You will learn about nutrient cycling, energy flow, and the intricate relationships between organisms that make a miniature ecosystem thrive. There's no single blueprint for a successful biome, so your creativity and understanding will guide the creation of a unique, living world. Through various hands-on experiences, you’ll explore how mechanical design, sensing, and control systems contribute to the essential conditions that allow an environment to “breathe” and support a lasting, independent ecosystem. Working at the intersection of engineering and ecology, you’ll build, code, and refine your living biome.
