Learn the fundamentals of safe boating and earn certification accepted by Maine and other states requiring boating education before operating a watercraft. In Maine, certification is generally required for boaters born on or after January 1, 1999, operating qualifying motorboats or personal watercraft. Topics include safety equipment, trip planning, navigation rules and aids, state and federal regulations, anchoring, adverse conditions and emergencies, communications, trailering, knots and lines, and more. Designed to go beyond the minimum certification requirements, this course provides additional time for demonstrations, discussion, and hands-on learning to help students build practical boating skills—not just prepare for the exam. America’s Boating Course & More is ideal for operators of powerboats, sailboats, and paddlecraft on both inland and coastal waters. An optional state certification exam is included. A $50 materials and administration fee, payable by cash or check to Penobscot Bay Sail and Power Squadron, will be collected at the first class.
