About this event
RSVP Encouraged but not required! About the Tour: Steps away from the restaurants and shops of downtown lies the hidden history of Steamboat Springs. Join our special monthly host, Colorado Mountain College’s Geology Professor, as we explore Steamboat’s Mineral Springs, each with its own history, medicinal uses, and geologic past. All ages are welcome on this tour; however, it is taught at an adult/young adult level of comprehension- young children may find much of the content difficult to understand. This program is offered in partnership with the Tread of Pioneers Museum, and all participants will receive a half-off admission coupon to the Tread of Pioneers Museum. Where to Meet: We will meet in the Steamboat Art Depot Parking Lot (1001 13th Street) at 8:50am. What to Expect: This walk is broken into two segments. The first hour covers ~1 mile long and is mostly flat along city sidewalks. The second optional trek to Lithia Springs covers another mile and has some elevation gain through residential streets. What to Wear/Bring: This is a casual walk. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for 1-2 hours outside. Be ready for what the weather brings for the day- sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen is recommended. UV rays are much more powerful at our elevation, so even two hours is enough to cause sunburns and sight damage. Ensure you have a water bottle and any medications you may need, including epi-pens, with you.
