About this event
Join Yampatika, the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition, and Colorado Grouse Tours for our annual Grouse and Crane Tours! Enjoy the beauty just north of Hayden as we search for three species of grouse, Sandhill cranes, and many other species who call this area home. This tour will include a lot of driving between sites, allowing us to cover a lot of ground with the opportunity to find multiple species and visit numerous ecosystems. Along the way, you’ll learn from biologists on this expert-led program. Location: TBD! Due to the unpredictable conditions this spring, we will be choosing the site location about a week before the event. We will meet at the Yampatika/USFS Office (925 Weiss Drive) to load up the van and ride together. For questions about possible locations, please contact Jeremiah Pisoropoulos at coloradogrousetours@gmail.com. Time: TBD! Exact timing for arrival and departure are dependent on the location we choose, but will not exceed the listed time (5am - 10am). For questions about timing, please contact Hailey at hailey@yampatika.org What to expect: Total walking distance will not exceed ~4 miles. Anticipate temperatures in the 30s so dress warm! There will be a lot of driving between locations and getting in and out of the van involved. Snacks and hot drinks will be provided before leaving, and breakfast will be served along the way. Transportation will be provided! For case-by-case exceptions to the age limit and transportation, or to alert us of any dietary restrictions, please contact our office. What to bring: Headlamps and/or flashlights. Cold weather gear. To increase our chances of seeing grouse, we must be still and quiet. Hot hands or other warmers are recommended. Binoculars recommended.
