About this event
This program is weather-dependent! Owls are not active in high winds or snow, so the tour will be cancelled in those conditions. If you have questions, please call Hailey at 970.879.9151 Join Yampatika naturalists on this nighttime snowshoe tour! Throughout the tour, we will stop to conduct US Forest Service surveys for boreal owls and search for other species of interest in various places on the Routt National Forest. What to expect: We will cover ~3 miles with 650ft of elevation gain. We will wander and stop often, and will not be taking on the full elevation gain all at once. Insulated, waterproof shoes are required! Bring a headlamp with a red light setting if you have one- flashlights also work, but headlamps will be easier. Wear comfortable clothing for the weather and make sure to layer! Bring plenty of water and snacks. Where to meet: We’ll meet at the Yampatika Office at 925 Weiss Drive at 5pm. We will head to our route on the Steamboat Resort at 5:15pm and be back to the Yampatika Office by 8:30pm at the lastest. Transportation: You are responsible for your own transportation to the Yampatika office; we will take you to the location from there. Please PLAN AHEAD. Public transportation and hotel shuttles may be available to this location - check in advance! Uber/Lyft are available but not always reliable. Cost & Refunds- The cost includes transportation to and from the hike location, and snowshoe rentals if you indicate you need them. If you have additional questions or need more information, please email hailey@yampatika.org or call the office at (970) 871-9151
