About this event
This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, etc. The class will then delve into learning how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy and how irrevocable trusts can protect your assets from nursing homes or Maine Care (Medicaid) liens. The discussion will include other strategies to safeguard assets from life events such as business failure or divorce of adult children. Kathryn is a lawyer in York, Maine, where she has practiced since 1991. She advises individuals, couples, and families on estate planning, probate matters, real estate, and elder law, including Medicaid/Maine Care planning. Drawing on her background as a real estate attorney, she advises families on ownership and transfer of significant ocean and lakefront properties. She is a member of the York County Bar Association, Maine Bar Association, and Greater York Chamber of Commerce. She conducts classes on estate planning for local adult eds.
