About this event

Description

Planning for the future often brings up questions about how to protect your loved one's financial security while maintaining access to important support and benefits. This educational seminar is designed for parents and guardians of loved ones who are neurodivergent and want a clearer understanding of special needs trusts and how they fit into long-term planning.

During this session, families will learn what special needs trusts are, why they are commonly used, and how they can help preserve eligibility for government benefits while supporting quality of life. The presentation will offer a high-level overview of common trust types and key considerations for families beginning or continuing this planning process.
Topics will include:
  • An overview of what special needs trusts are and why families may use them
  • How special needs trusts help preserve eligibility for government benefits
  • General overview of common trust types, including first-party, third-party, and pooled trusts
  • Roles and responsibilities of trustees
  • Common ways special needs trusts are funded over time
  • The importance of working with qualified legal professionals when creating a trust

This seminar is educational only and non-product-based, with no sales or obligation to work with the presenters from New York Life Company. A general Q&A will follow the presentation, and families will be encouraged to keep learning and planning at a pace that feels right for them. Additional educational and community resources will also be shared.
This session is meant to be supportive, informative, and empowering for families navigating the many planning decisions that come with supporting a loved one with special needs.
Light refreshments will be provided.
