About this event
Explore the depths of the ocean, high and low tides and the marine life in it as you learn about ocean related careers! As a Hydrographic Civil Engineer, learn about hydrographic surveying of the ocean floor and coastal areas as you measure water depth and the contour of the ocean floor so ships and boats can navigate our waterways without hitting the bottom. As a Marine Scientist, discover the cleverness of an octopus, study the lovable manatee, learn to eat like a whale, discover why jellyfish glow in the dark and how they move, and why sharks have thousands of teeth. As a Coral Biologist, learn the types and colors of these polyps or coral, the algae in them, and coral’s importance in our lives for food, medicine, and earth’s oxygen. Examine tiny life under the microscope and discover why tide pools are important to marine life. Wrap up the week by cleaning an oil spill, examining plastics in the ocean, creating a clay coral reef, Gyotaku “fish prints”, a seashell wind chime and eating seaweed!
