About this event
Art has long been a powerful way to speak up and fight for change, and San Jose's walls are full of proof. In this one-week course, you'll explore how murals, sculptures, and public art have given voice to movements for justice, both locally and beyond. Through walking field trips to downtown murals and visits to local museums, you'll uncover the stories behind works created to challenge injustice and celebrate community. You'll learn to look at public art with fresh eyes, discovering meaning in pieces you may have passed a hundred times before. The week ends with you as the artist. You'll design and create an original piece supporting a social justice cause you care about—adding your voice to a tradition as old as art itself.
