About this event
Step outside the classroom and into the stories that shaped our city. This one-week course transforms downtown San Jose into a living textbook, where every street corner, mural, and monument has something to teach us. You'll explore the history behind landmarks like Plaza de César Chávez, discover why San Jose's Japantown is one of only three remaining in the country, and learn the powerful story behind San Jose State's iconic Victory Salute statue. Along the way, you'll see how artists, activists, and community members have used public spaces to advocate for change. Through walking excursions and on-site discussions, you'll experience local history where it actually happened and gain a deeper appreciation for the community you call home.
