About this event
The knee is the load transfer machine of the lower body—it's the connector between the hip and the ankle and is therefore heavily influenced by what is happening at the hip and ankle joints. Using physiyoga principles, strengthening and functional movement, this six-week knee program targets mobility, stability, and strength for all three of these important leg links: the hip, the knee, and the ankle. Each class will progressively build confidence, control, and support for your knees. This program is for: those who want to maintain functional mobility/strength in the lower body through the aging process and those experiencing low-level knee discomfort that gets better with rest or movement or might come and go with no other associated signs and symptoms. This program is NOT for: those experiencing acute, sharp, or intense pain that wakes you up at night or does not get better with rest, see a medical professional in person instead. Please bring 2 thick blankets and a yoga mat to class. No previous yoga experience necessary. Instructor Deborah Cook, PT, DPT, is a practicing physical therapist with twenty-six years' experience in midcoast Maine and South Carolina. She is also a yoga instructor and Physiyoga practitioner blending the science of physical therapy with the intuitive body/mind practices of yoga, teaching individuals and small group workshops. Deborah loves sharing her knowledge of anatomy and movement to help people maintain mobility, flexibility, and strength, especially as they age.
