This comprehensive Firefighter I & II program is designed for individuals interested in entering the fire service or enhancing their ability to serve with a local fire department. The course is ideal for those pursuing employment or volunteer opportunities in firefighting, EMS, emergency management, public safety, or related fields. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on practical training, students will develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies expected of entry-level firefighters. Topics include firefighter safety, personal protective equipment, fire behavior, ladders, hose operations, search and rescue, ventilation, fire control, emergency communications, hazardous materials awareness and operations, and other essential fire ground functions. In addition to technical skills, students will build teamwork, discipline, physical readiness, problem-solving abilities, and emergency response capabilities in a structured public safety training environment. Upon successful completion of the program, students may be eligible to participate in Pro-Board Firefighter I & II certification testing through the Maine Fire Service Institute. Prerequisite: Students must be at least 18 years of age to attend and must be sponsored or employed with a fire department. Please contact our office to obtain the class application. A mandatory orientation will be held on December 10, 2026. Classes begin Thursday, January 7, and will meet every Thursday evening from 6:00–9:00 p.m. and every other Sunday from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. No classes will be held during February or April school vacation weeks. The program runs through June, with the possibility of additional Saturday sessions in May and June, as needed.
