Math Club 2026–2027 Last year’s Math Club was a great success, so I’m excited to continue the club again this year! For those who don’t know me, my name is Abby Guyer, and I teach fifth-grade math. Many of you participated in Math Club last year, but for those who are new, the club is designed for students who love math, enjoy problem solving, and are willing to persevere through challenging tasks. What is Math Club? Students will participate in MOEMS (Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools), which includes five monthly contests beginning in November and continuing through early March. Each contest is 30 minutes long and consists of five non-routine math problems. Students work individually and without calculators. The problems are designed to challenge students to think creatively, apply mathematical reasoning, and persevere when a solution is not immediately obvious. On Tuesdays when we are not taking a contest, students will work through past MOEMS problems, explore different strategies, and discuss how those strategies can be applied to a variety of problem types. Collaboration and sharing mathematical thinking will be an important part of our sessions. When and Where? We will meet Tuesdays in my classroom from 3:00–3:50 p.m., beginning November 9. Students should be picked up promptly at 3:50 p.m. in the Ellis Traffic Circle. 12 Tuesday Sessions: November 10, 17 December 1, 8, 15 January 12, 19, 26 February 9, 16, 23 March 9 Who Can Participate? Math Club is open to a maximum of 16 fourth- and fifth-grade students. Selection will be based on a combination of: First-come, first-served registration Students’ math performance Ability to problem solve collaboratively Willingness to share mathematical thinking and insights with the group Perseverance when working through challenging problems Is Math Club a Good Fit for Your Child?
