Join artist Brittany Miller to learn some of her favorite mixed-media techniques. In this hands-on workshop, students will experiment with Miller’s signature self-designed printing process, explore different medium transfers, and have the opportunity to work with materials from her own collection to incorporate into mixed media compositions. If you are already a mixed media artist and have a collection of items you like to work with, you are welcome to bring them along.

This will be a dynamic class that moves back and forth between processes—from printing to medium transfers—as drying times require. This allows artists time to ponder imagery and materials, considering everything they offer, from texture to mood and so much more. There will be ongoing dialogue about how to look at materials and how they can come to life through different applications.
Ultimately, many small pieces (6” x 6”) will be created that could become part of a final piece or stand alone as small vignettes. The goal is to play and explore the various materials.
A 9” x 9” primed archival paper will be provided and set up for creating a final piece, though everyone will have their own process to explore. Miller has taught classes where students became so captivated by the processes that they dove in and created a pile of “art scraps” to take home—either for further experimentation or to use in a “scrap journal.”
This class is designed for beginners and experienced artists alike. If you’re looking to find new inspiration, come ready to explore, play with materials, and discover new ways of building mixed media works on paper.
The workshop will include a lunch break, and Miller encourages participants to bring a lunch so conversations and discussion about the class can continue during the break.
Participants will also receive a fun DIY frame from Miller to take home—perfect for showcasing and easily swapping out creations from their 6” x 6” explorations.
About the Instructor:Brittany Miller is a recent Ridgway resident after residing in Telluride for 25 years. She opened a custom frame shop and continues to pursue her creative passions. Miller has consistently explored various creative outlets exhibiting artwork which ranges from drawings, paintings, mixed media and small-scale installations. She also has been active member of the communities working for non-profits and festivals as well as collaborating in artistic efforts with other artists and community entities.
