Calling all Pre-Kindergarten-5th Grade art enthusiasts! Step behind the velvet ropes and into the exclusive world of art curation by joining Guardians of the Gallery! Facilitated by Mrs. Callaghan, Mrs. Karpowitz, and Middle/Upper School members of the Morton Committee, this program transforms students into courageous curators. Participants will work alongside older artists to learn the secrets of staging an art show and creating their own mini-collection. Guardians will also take a special tour to explore the hidden treasures of our school's private Hugh Morton, Jr. Art Collection. The experience culminates with students putting their new skills into action by planning and curating a part of the official Lower School Art Exhibition in March.  Key Information:  - What to bring: a snack and water bottle, comfy shoes, clothes that can get paint on them - Pick-up: We will be in the Lower School Fine Arts Building. Come to parking lot E and park. Walk around the back of the building and you’ll find us in Mrs. Callaghan’s room. Look for the open door decorated with koi fish—that's us! If your kiddo participates in Extended Day, we will make sure they make it there afterward! Instructors & Program Purpose:  Your guides on this artistic adventure are experienced Ravenscroft instructors Mrs. Karpowitz (3rd-5th grades), and Mrs. Callaghan (PK-2nd grades). They will be joined by the Morton Committee facilitators, a select group of students from grades 6-12 who collaborate throughout the year to select pieces to add to The Hugh Morton, Jr. Art Collection.  The Hugh Morton, Jr. Art Collection is a vital asset enriching the lives of students, families, and faculty in our community. The individual pieces serve as valuable teaching tools to explain different techniques and styles of art. The ultimate hope of the Guardians of the Gallery program is to begin early to cultivate a long-term commitment to our community's arts culture.
